In this blog post, we’ll cover what causes Frigidaire dishwashers to leak, as well as steps you can take in order to stop the leak from happening at all.
Ever notice that your dishwasher leaks after the wash cycle? If you’re trying to ignore a small puddle of water on the floor, it might be time for some investigation. Check out the below reasons why and fix them before major damage occurs!
What Causes Frigidaire Dishwasher Leaking? Troubleshooting and Diagnosis
Let’s look at the possible causes and solutions for it.
Using the Wrong Detergent
Using too much detergent or using a type of detergent other than what the dishwasher is designed for can cause excess suds. If your dishwasher is leaking or flooding, then it may be due to suds pushing water out of the machine. You should only use detergent specifically designed for automatic dishwashers.
Excessive soapsuds will cause Frigidaire dishwashers to leak from the door. Dish detergent has no more than ½ inch of suds on top of the water. So if your dishwasher is leaking from the door, open it, and if there are more than a ½ inch, that means your soap needs to be fixed.
Using harsh detergent can cause the plastic tub floor in your dishwasher to erode and crack. So, make sure that you always use the correct detergent. Check the manual to know what type of detergent you need to use.
Dishwasher is Overloaded
If your Frigidaire dishwasher is overloaded, it will leak from both the door and spray arm. If you have more than six place settings in the Frigidaire dishwasher, this could cause excess water pressure to come out of the machine at the end of a cycle.
Check if there are any dishes or cups with food residue on them (Rinse well before putting in Frigidaire Dishwasher), then remove as many plates so that less water comes out of Frigidaire when it’s done rinsing a load.
Dishwasher is Not Correctly Aligned
Sometimes Frigidaire dishwasher leaks from the door’s corner because it is not properly aligned. Check if Frigidaire Dishwasher is level and then adjust accordingly by using leveling feet that are usually found on Frigidaire Dishwasher‘s base.
Aligning your dishwasher is not rocket science, but it can be tricky. Place shims under the unit and measure again until you’ve perfectly leveled it.
Faulty Water Inlet Valve
If the inlet valve is damaged, then water will escape and create puddles on your floors. A good seal ensures that everything goes smoothly with no leaks or problems. If you’re noticing leaking under your dishwasher, for instance, make sure to check things like seals right away.
If the water valve breaks or stays open, the dishwasher will flood without stopping until it overflows.
The water inlet valve is leaking and cannot be repaired. The only option is to replace it with a new one. Always turn off the water supply when repairing your dishwasher.
Loose Pump Seals
The pump seals could be loose or worn out. As the water passes over them, it creates pressure, leading to leaks from just about any part of your dishwasher.
If there is excessive leaking coming from around the motor base, you should check for loose pump seals. Tighten these up, so they are secure again – Frigidaire recommends using plumber’s putty or silicone on both ends of each tube clamp.
The best way to identify a leaky dishwasher is by looking for drips or leaks near the pump. A loose seal often causes this problem, but it’s likely you won’t see any signs of leakage until after plenty of water has been running in your machine.
It’s worth noting that once you turn off the faucet and stop filling up more dishes, there should be no leaking from inside your dishwasher. If anything looks out of place on the outside – like a motor or housing dripping with fluid- then chances are something may need replacing soon!
Loose or Damaged Hose
The drain hose carries the water from the dishwasher up to the sink. This is not visible until you remove the kickplate panel at the base of your appliance. Water may leak from the dishwasher before it goes outside. If the hose or its connection becomes loose or cracked, water will come out onto the floor before it goes through the end of the hose.
If you see water coming out from the dishwasher hose, take off the dishwasher door and then look for leaks. They could be on the hose clamps or along with the hose.
After the cycle is done, turn off the power. Wait for the water to stop coming out of the pump. Cut off the hose from both sides, connect new hoses, and then put back on the clamps and access panel.
Faulty Float Switch
A float assembly is used to control the water level in your dishwasher. This assembly consists of a float and float switch. When your dishwasher runs, the float pulls up with the rising water. When the water reaches a certain height, this switch shuts it off. If something goes wrong with this switch, the water level will get too high, and there might be a leak.
Open the dishwasher at mid-cycle to see what you are dealing with. The water should be below the heating element in the dishwasher. If not, then there may be a problem with the float switch. To find out if that is true, unscrew a panel below the dishwasher’s door and disconnect any wires from it to test for continuity.
Stuck or Clogged Spray Arm
The spray arm should be spinning rapidly and spraying water onto the bottom of your dishes. If it is clogged, then you will see food particles or debris on top of the dishwasher’s upper rack when you open the door. To fix this problem, remove any large pieces with a spoon or spatula before turning off the power to the dishwasher.
If utensils and dishes block the arm, it will not spin as well. This can make Frigidaire Dishwasher Leaking problem happen over time. Make sure that you load your dishes, so they don’t block the arm.
If your spray arm is broken, you can order a new one from the manufacturer. You can take it out and put in a new one yourself.
Defective Door Seal
If your Frigidaire dishwasher is leaking from the door, it may be because of a defective or improperly installed gasket. The rubber seal around the edge of the door should make contact with both sides and create an airtight seal to prevent leaks.
When you close the dishwasher, it should stick to the door. If it does not stick, then there is a gap in the seal. If your dishwasher has any gaps or leaks in the seal, replace it.
We hope that now you are not facing the Frigidaire Dishwasher leaking problem. It’s also good practice to reset the Frigidaire dishwasher whenever you encounter any error. Please do comment with your questions, and we will be happy to answer them.
