Frigidaire Air Conditioner Won’t Turn On – Troubleshoot And Diagnosis
When your air conditioning unit stops working, there are some things you should check before calling a professional. Keep in mind that while doing so, you can be comfortable and save money by knowing what to do.
1. Ensure That AC is Getting Power
Whenever an air conditioner doesn’t start, check if it has power. The first thing you should do is always check the AC’s cord to make sure it is plugged in. If the unit has power but still isn’t cooling, there could be one of several issues: the thermostat could be set incorrectly, there may be a problem with the fan, or the compressor may need servicing.
If your air conditioner suddenly stops working and you don’t know what the problem is, there are a few easy checks you can make before calling a professional. First, check that the cord connected to your unit isn’t unplugged. If it is, re-plug it and see if this fixes your problem. If not, pull back any nearby furniture or rugs to see if there’s a chance the plug got tangled with something while it was plugged in.
Check the Air Conditioner on/off switch. Flip it to the “on” position to see if it starts working. If the window unit turns on and begins to run normally, great! If it does not, let’s take a look at the cord.
2. Do A Reset
Let’s take a look at how you can fix issues with your Frigidaire air conditioner. If the unit won’t turn on, it’s a common problem that most manufacturers have a quick fix for. There could have been an abrupt power failure and the unit may need to be reset.
First, check to make sure that the unit was turned off by the off button, and not the power button. If your unit is not responding to the remote control or wall mount switch, it may need to be reset.
If your Frigidaire air conditioner can’t be turned on, it may be that the air conditioner’s protective time delay has been initiated to keep your system safe. Simply turn the unit off and wait for three minutes before trying again. If you still cannot power it on, locate the reset button on your cord. With the unit turned off and unplugged, press and hold this button for five seconds to reset your system.
The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your unit is powered off. Then, unplug the unit from the wall and wait for three minutes before plugging it back in.
3. Check Power Cord
A frayed or damaged power cord isn’t just unattractive — it can create a dangerous situation that leads to serious injury. If it’s time to store the unit for seasonal use, make sure you unplug it from the wall and check the cord for damage. Examine the in-line circuit breaker or fuse to make sure it’s intact and working correctly.
Take your AC power cord and squeeze it tightly in your hands (do not pull on it). If there is damage to the inside of the cable, you will be able to feel it. Another issue to keep an eye out for is any exposed wiring.
Sometimes when a power outage occurs and other similar incidents, the fuse or mini breaker inside your Frigidaire AC cord may need to be replaced. If this is the case, you can simply call a licensed electrician and get the issue resolved immediately.
However, if everything appears normal, you may want to plug in something else to ensure that your outlet is functioning properly. For example, one of the most important parts of an outlet is the ground wire.
4. Fuses and Breaker Boxes
Vacuum cleaners and the window air conditioning (AC) units are notorious devices for tripping breakers. Breakers remain a simple solution to frequent interruptions to the flow of electricity from your power provider. Residential and commercial buildings continue to rely on them for safeguarding more expensive equipment from electrical damage.
If your power is out and you are unsure why, many experts recommend first turning off the circuit breaker that serves the outlet you’ve plugged into. If your home’s power is provided by a fuse box rather than a circuit breaker, first ensure that you have a working flashlight or lantern with fresh batteries. Then check each fuse to identify the one that powers the outlets in question.
If your air conditioning unit doesn’t seem to be working, the problem might be a blown fuse. To check for that, you’ll need to remove some parts of the unit. In it’s manual, the manufacturer should specify which fuses are in your air conditioning unit, or you can find the model number and look it up online.
In order to replace the fuse, you’ll need to find where it’s located on your air conditioning unit and then remove the broken one. Modern manufacturers make fuses easy to access, so you should be able to get it done in just a few minutes.
To replace the fuse, find the fuse box and then remove the bad fuse from the board and replace it with a new one.
