We all want to be prepared for when we need a drink the most. If your Samsung refrigerator has an ice maker, it’s important to learn how to maintain it and replace any components that break or stop working. When the Samsung ice maker not making ice, it can be frustrating. Fortunately, there are a few troubleshooting suggestions that could resolve the issue.
You might think that there’s not much to it when it comes to using an ice maker. Ice makers are designed to make plain old ice, right? But did you know that there are a few different types of ice makers out there? From the basic ones that make plain old ice to more complicated models that make crushed or cubed ice, you can find them all in various sizes, styles, and price ranges.
There’s nothing worse than coming home after a long day at work to discover that your ice maker isn’t working. The best way to address an issue like this is to identify the problem right away, then call for help. Not every issue is the same, so you’ll want to confirm what’s wrong with your ice maker so you can get it fixed in the shortest amount of time.
Incorrect Freezer Temperature
Samsung ice makers are sensitive to the freezer temperature, so if your machine keeps freezing up, try checking your freezer’s temperature. Samsung ice makers will freeze up and produce smaller, less-than-ideal ice cubes if the freezer is set to a temperature that is too low.
One reason that an ice maker might not be functioning properly is if the freezer isn’t cold enough. If the temperature of the refrigerator is too high, the freezer may become warm and ice may melt or produce small ice cubes.
The recommended freezer temperature for Samsung ranges from -2 to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Keeping your freezer set at this range will result in optimal ice production.
Ice Maker Paused or Turned Off
In order to resolve an issue with your ice maker, it is important to think about the settings. One problem could be that the settings are confusing and there are two or three different ways to pause or stop your ice maker. It is possible that one of the family members accidentally turned off the ice maker, stopping it from making ice entirely.
If you have a digital display in your commercial ice machine, you may be able to access the ice maker settings. These controls might be found in this panel. You can also press and hold the power or ice maker buttons for a few seconds to see if your ice maker was turned off electronically.
The fill bar is a metal bar that sits on top of the ice bin. If the ice bin fills up, it should push the fill bar to the top and stop new ice from being made. This can be done manually by flipping up the fill bar, but this is an old-fashioned practice. The fill bar should be pushed back down to tell the ice maker that it is supposed to keep making ice.
Ice Stuck in the Mold
Sometimes, the ice maker’s basket gets clogged with ice chunks. Frosty ice, misshapen ice, and fractured ice are all common. If a whole batch of ice gets clogged in the basket, an entire batch of new ice can’t be formed and the water line might be creating a problem too because it can’t fill the tray.
To get ice cubes unstuck from the ice maker, fill a pitcher with warm water and turn off the ice maker. Pour the water over the ice tray and use a spoon to gently nudge them out. Be sure to remove all of the liquid from the ice bin so you don’t have any liquids impacting the next batch of ice.
Icemaker is Not Level
One potential problem that’s often overlooked is whether your ice maker is level. If the machine doesn’t hang level in the fridge, the ice will not be level in the mold and other components may malfunction. The ice will be slanted in the mold and even your ejector assembly may not work correctly.
Your fridge may be lopsided. First, use a bubble level to make sure the fridge is not leaning in one direction or another. Use it on the bottom of the fridge and the freezer floor. If they are not level, adjust the feet of the fridge until they are flat.
If the ice maker is too low or high, check to see if the mount brackets are bent. If they are, use pliers to straighten them out if possible. If the only problem is that the screws are loose, reattach them tightly.
Check the Water Inlet Valve
If you have a fridge, the valve is the device that provides water to it. When this is no longer working correctly, there will be no ice or water dispensed. This part is also affected by low water pressure, so you can check if this is the case by using a gauge. If the gauge reads below 20 PSI, the valve may not work properly.
To test the inlet valve, turn off your water supply and unplug the refrigerator. If the valve is accessible, unplug it and measure with a multimeter. If it is faulty, replace it.
Faulty Water Filter
If you find your ice maker not filling with water, it may be time to change the water filter. As time passes, this filter can become highly contaminated from impurities and restrict the ice maker’s flow of water. This can lead to a drastic reduction in ice production or, worse, a funky taste and smell. Changing the filter every six months will keep these clogs from hindering ice production.
Non-OEM water filters can restrict the ice maker’s water flow, so always install and use a Samsung-recommended filter. Check your user manual for more information on water filter installation for your model and never use a filter that is not approved by Samsung.
Control Arm Out of Position
This ice maker has a pause feature when the ice bin is full. If it seems like the control arm has fallen off or been moved, the pause feature may be active. The owner’s manual should have information about the pause feature. Check to see if it’s enabled.
Inspect The Water Line
If your ice maker’s not working, there’s a problem with the water supply. Your ice maker needs water to produce ice, so follow the water line. Check for clogs, malfunctions, or find out if the problem is with the filter.
A leak or kink in the water line can lead to clogs and buildup that leave you without water. Clogs and buildup, as well as a closed water valve, might stop the water from flowing. Check the Dispensing Gear and Motor
